NEWS AND STUFF
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton given Korean name by the ROK-US Alliance Friendship Society.
The surname “Han,” meaning Korea, is derived from the Korean pronunciation of the letter “H” in the name “Hillary.” With the conferment of the surname, Clinton will become the founder of the “Sejong Han” family. Secretary Clinton is the first “Han” from “Sejong-ro” or Sejong Street, the main street in central Seoul where the U.S. Embassy is located.
The name “Hi-sook” is a combination of two separate Chinese characters. “Hi” stands for “Shining,” while “Sook” is for “Clear.” “We believe that these are the attributes that have led to the appointment of Hillary Clinton as the 67th U.S. Secretary of State. Her clear vision and political insight will make important contributions in setting the stage for peace on the Korean Peninsula,” added Suh.

Hey, Joe! Can I ask which Korean flashcard program you are using?
February 28th, 2009 at 4:51 am
Sorry to double post, but did anyone else have problems with the podcast (as accessed via itunes). Mine was cut short… "Time Wasters of the Week" and everything thereafter were missing.
March 1st, 2009 at 4:27 am
Wait. The "real" rapist is American but speaks with an Eastern European accent? Hmm… This is just scary.
March 1st, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Try it again, Ian. I had no problems downloading it. Oh, and I use the Declan Flashcard software.

Haven't listened to the podcast yet but…
Before anyone chuckles about the useless coins and the gullible ajummas (or obasans) buying them, Franklin Mint and similar companies to a bang up business selling even more useless coins (clad in .999 pure silver) in the US and they even exploit the images of 9-11 to do it.
March 1st, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Hi Joe, I tried downloading it with iTunes and it only pulls down 2:31 and not the 2:58 you have posted above. I did it twice so can you check it again?
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:57 am
Hey, I laughed and cried with frustration when the 9/11 coins came out.

I'm sorry guys. Something must have happened when I was out of town. I'm uploading it again. It was working fine on Friday morning. It should be fixed now.

Joe please bring back Stafford ! I miss his sexy New Zealand accent.
March 5th, 2009 at 1:31 am
Can you, for the love of all that is holy, please get rid of "Kickin' it in Geumchang" or whatever that song is by the EV Boys or whoever.
Every time I listen to the podcast and that comes on I have that dang song stuck in my head for several days and I just want to rip my head off to stop it! I now skip forward as soon as I hear the first note or two, but that's not a solution, just a temp fix!
PLEEEEAAAASSSEEEE!
Other than that, cool podcast again.

Direct effect of the bad image made upon foreign men. My coteachers told me that they feared hiring a male teacher because as they said "They just want to come here to take advantage of Korean women."
Believe me I corrected them, and told them that Foreign English Men are highly educated people who mean well in their country. But that there are some bad examples out there but they don't last long here.

Being a guy, I rather like the idea of packing up fresh out of college and moving to a new place for a year or so and having sex with local women, so I can't begrudge any guy for wanting to. I mean, in the old days, some sailors must have signed up for that same reason, unless they all just really liked scurvy and buggery. Now if some dude told me he's going to whap it the whole year he's away from home, there's your sexual deviant right thar~~

I'm just too lazy to change it–for now.
